Sorry if this is a common question, I am thinking about heading up with family (young daughter and older father) to southern VT for a nice hangout and some foliage viewing. Are there any suggestions for locations? We might spend the night so a nice town and branch out for sightseeing and hikes.

I have no idea what these people are talking about. I literally was in southern Vermont this weekend and the colors were spectacular. Really hitting the stride with peak in the Manchester/Stratton area.

Problem is that we got this big rain and wind storm coming in on Thursday, and it’s been my experience that first big rain/wind storm tears down all the leaves. This weekend may be too late.

The Champlain Valley is near peak but not peak yet. Because of this you might luck out, the leaves may be strong enough to hang around until the next storm.

I live here and we are definitely past peak. If someone is merely considering a trip, they’ve missed it.

I live here too and we’re near peak. I still have green foliage in my yard. Depends where you are I guess.

Why did you say you were here last weekend? I’m so confused.

I was in a different part of the state from where I live.

So you don't live in southern Vermont? Your wording is strange.

Too late. And there are a lot of posts on this if you search the sub.

It’s too late to see any foliage whatsoever? Like all of the trees are barren and brown? Man I’ve had such positive experiences on sub Reddits all over New England, but everyone here just seems to want to be so negative. Oh well.

Also, I literally use the Google search function and I didn’t really get great results: https://www.google.com/search?q=Places+in+southern+Vermont+for+foliage+site%3Areddit.com&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS807US807&oq=Places+in+southern+Vermont+for+foliage+site%3Areddit.com&aqs=chrome..69i57.5563j0j4&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

The leaves are still here but past peak now. Heavy rains tomorrow will bring a lot down. There will still be some foliage after but not like the stunning photos you see online at the moment. The further south and lower elevations you go the more there will be. It still nice.

Telling you there won’t be any foliage left is not being negative? As someone else said, it’s raining this week and that will bring a lot of the remaining leaves down. I’m in southwest Vermont and the view out my window is a lot more sticky than it was even a few days ago.

It’s past peak, that combined with rain and wind means the trees will mostly be bare and whatever is holding on will just be brown

Supposed to be 50+ mph winds tomorrow. There won’t be any leaves left by weekend.

You could try Fort Dummer State Park. I haven’t been during the fall, but the trails are nice and family friendly. We took a 5 year old and she loved it.

Get off in 91 in Northampton, go 9 west, and 112 north. Absolutely stunning right now....although it's gonna rain hard tomorrow...might knock a lot of the leaves down.

I think we are past peak because rain is hitting but I would say any dense area would be nice!
