Hi everyone! I know it’s peak tourist season right now with the foliage. I’m planning on visiting beginning of November so I’m anticipating missing some (if not most) of the foliage experience.

Was wondering if anyone has any city recommendations to visit? My friend and I are visiting from NJ so very used to the crazy of NYC. So any city with good (easy-intermediate) hikes would be appreciated as well as any insight to what Vermont is best known for! Open to any suggestions :) (going to be staying 1-2 days in VT)

Thanks in advance!

Central Vermont is pretty great IMO, and you’re close to a lot of easy-intermediate hiking. Groton state forest has some of my favorites, Spruce mountain, kettle pond, peacham bog, There’s a mountain biking park near Barre that’s actually great for easy hiking, it’s in a series of old (and active) quarries. Lovely little trails abound around Calais and East Montpelier that are never busy. Lots of maple creemee options. Hit up Red Hen bakery. Wayside diner. Mad Taco. Have fun

I think most of the maple creamee places close up before November though.

Looked up Red Hen: permanently closed?

Red Hen is open & delicious! They are currently closed on Tuesdays but otherwise open at 7 AM daily!

Great!

Interesting. Maybe I’m looking at the wrong location? Google maps labels them on Baldwin as permanently closed (in red ink) - they might want to submit a correction to google?

Coming from NJ and only doing 1-2 days I'd say southern VT. The Stratton/Manchester area is beautiful.

Get on the green mountain byway. Take your time and stop at some local places.
