If you are staying near Burlington

•Pizza 44, Folino’s, Myer’s, Willow’s, Misery Loves Company, Good Times Cafe, Bliss Bee, Pizzeria Verità, Trattoria Delia •The Archives, Orlando’s, Nectar’s, The Old Post •I don’t know much for gluten free but I know 2 great vegan spots. Cafe Hot and Pingala •Stowe Cider, Citizen Cider, Cold Hollow Cider, Shacksbury Cider. Syrup is everywhere •I don’t know much for boat tours, not my cup of tea •There’s literally small business of every type in every town, I don’t have any suggestions because you can just go find literally anything locally. •Essex Junction has great shops and a few good places to eat. Burlington is a farm to table Mecca of popular restaurants, Vermont is a leader in the craft beer game. If you don’t drink you are missing a large part of the culture(not to discriminate against sober people, it is what it is.)

West Meadow Bakery in Essex is gluten free, and other places have GF options. The Champlain Valley and Addison county are home to a number of Apple orchards with their own cideries so it is worth a drive down to check out Shacksbury Cider and Champlain Orchards, you can also go to Woodchuck in Middlebury (which is a big operation but their tasting room is nice). Stowe is always a mob scene in the fall, if I venture that way in October I’ve found an early start helps with the crowds. If you are in the Mad River Valley check out Lawsons.

As someone who lives in Vermont, I'd highly recommend going somewhere else if what you're looking for is 'things to do'. You will find nothing to do here other than eating, driving around in circles while gawking at trees, or getting shit faced. There's a reason why all the people here are depressed drug addicts, we don't have a single stimulating thing in our entire state.

You're going to be visiting Vermont? Can you be a little more specific?

• There are a number of brewery's you can look up. Unless you're in Burlington, on Church Street, "Nightlife" usually refers to coywolves, owls and foxes. Alternately, you can find "Nightlife" at the various ski resorts, like Killington, at the right time of the year. October probably ain't it. One doesn't really come to Vermont for "Nightlife" unless one is a field biologist. I personally like that about Vermont, but I'm an introvert and recluse.
• Cider season is over and maple syrup season is about three months away, although if the weather goes on like this... Just keep your eye out for any given village's "villlage store". In the more touristy ones, you're more apt to find local cheeses, cider and syrup. If you're on Route 100, Rochester has a nice café where you can get nice drinks (not alcoholic) pastries and peruse used books. Also check out the Worthy Burger in South Royalton—a restaurant built in a stain station. The first burger I got there was raw, but if you send it back for the yokels to properly cook it, they're some of the best burgers around.
• Montpelier offers a nice assortment of local shops and small businesses. It's a nice walk from downtown to the Coop (assuming warm weather). There's also Manchester Vermont. There's a great bookstore there but many of the stores are upscale chain outlets. There are local businesses, like the bookstore, but you have to look for them. Middlebury is also great for little eateries and local shops.
• Great spots to visit: This time of year can be hit or miss. An otherwise beautiful spot can be made miserable because of the weather. Check out Quechee Gorge and Woodstock. There's a great antique mall at Quechee. If you head south on Route 100, be sure and visit Weston. The "Vermont Country Store" is there along with more local fair.
• Ignore the trolls.

Some people like looking at trees . There's plenty to do in Vermont if you enjoy nature. What do you think people outside of Vermont do? Eat, drive around and shop. It's the same shit every, just a different view. I'd rather look at trees than skyscrapers. Winter makes that a bit harder because it's cold AF and unless you ski or snow shoe, it sucks to be out.

Seeing something different though is something to do. I've lived all over. West coast, Midwest, down south. Now Vermont. Everywhere can get boring. I'd rather live in Vermont then many other places. Although I'd say if it weren't for the jagoffs leaving California and overcrowding some places and driving up prices and the potential for drought caused by global warming, I'd rather live in Idaho. Montana Still might be nice, but even then, too many rich idiots want to be cowboys or John Dutton and overpay for ranches. So don't rag on Vermont too much. It's not the most exciting, but some people like that.
