You can age then fairly reliably by eye color. Yellow is a juvenile, this looks like. Second year, and they get redder with age. I would have to see a retained upper tail covert to be sure of it being a second year though.

Interesting! We’ve got a bunch of them here. They have to be one of the dumber hawks I’ve been around. About every couple months one will get into the barn and not be able to get out. Another time one came down our chimney

Not dumb necessarily, just extremely prey driven. They are likely focused on catching sparrows or other small birds that maybe retreat into the barn.
