If you hear them but don't see them it's the Green Mountain Boys in their F35's. They are out several times a day.

It's pretty cool when you're out snowboarding and the F35s zoom through the valley. I wonder if they see us and think: "man I wish I were snowboarding down there" the way we look up and think: "man it must be so fun to rip through the green mountains in a fighter jet"

smcski t1_ivw0q4a wrote

No. They are just waiting to get back to the on base bar.

Ha. No, my impression of them is that give zero fucks about you unfortunately. The raptor pilots I've met have been arrogant douchebags.

Didn't see them but heard. They weren't on ADSB, so they are probably mil fighters. The transports and refueling planes always have transponders on.

the CT ANG flew by my house in C130's a couple years ago at like 500 agl in a valley. seriously wild.

I'm in Franklin county and every once in awhile we get this fighter jet that fucking SCREAMS over our house INCREDIBLY low. You will be working silently in the yard, all of a sudden there's a slight rumble, then within 3 seconds it's deafening, and then in less than a second it's gone.

It's not an F35 or F16 or any other jet I've seen around here. Almost looks like a Mig - can a civilian conceivably own a mig??

There's a few available on Trade-A-Plane right now. Hell, the guy who founded Oracle even bought a MiG-29, although apparently the US government won't let him import it.

In Franklin County as well but I've never seen this! I have seen a C-130 roar by a couple times at about 500' agl and that's always cool.

"MiG" covers many different types of planes. If you're thinking of a Top Gun MiG 28, that's an F-5 or T-38. If you're seeing twin and straight vertical stabilizers like a MiG 29, could be an F-15.

Technically MiGs can be privately owned in the US. They're almost exclusively used for training (red air).

I heard from a guy that used to work on jets out of Plattsburgh that the owner of Shelburne Limestone Corp. owns a Mig jet (unsure which type) and will occasionally fly it around.

Have you tried using the FlightAware or Flightradar24 apps?

norinco-ak47 t1_ivxcy6j wrote

I did see a Boeing KC tanker on Flightradar24 yesterday flying over S. Vermont.

Probably refueling fighters which weren't shown.

I used to live in Williston and we’d have to listen to the green mountain boys fly around on a weekly basis. I do not miss that.

There is a MOA (military operations area) in southern VT which is a designated area for training.

There is a newly designated military operations zone over the green mountains south of rutland airport.

Lol. When we lived in Kansas the b52 were built in Wichita. When they flew over they would shake the house and rattle the windows. I don't miss it.

Good thing you're so adept at looking up, perhaps you can use that skill to see the point clearly flying overhead 🤷‍♂️

I'm pretty sure the Massachusetts Air Guard flies F15s so that might be what you're hearing. It wouldn't surprise me if they made it up to southern VT once in a while.
