Just thinking it could be useful for this sub to have a thread once a week or something similar that’s dedicated to all the “moving here” questions. I think a lot of posts - while asking valid questions - ask the same ones that get answered several times every week and it’s kind of gotten repetitive lately to me. I think the thread would be a way to limit the number of posts and give a chance for more answers in one place.

If a pinned post isn't enough to stop dummies from posting a weekly thread isn't going to help either

Agreed I wish it would. Maybe a rule saying if don't use the pinned threads when appropriate you will be banned from r/vermont.

Harsh but this sub is getting overwhelmed with shit posts.

I vote the posts just be automatically deleted with a message to the poster with the info from the auto mod post that’s on this thread.

I think it's used somewhat. I try to answer questions there so that others think it' a helpful subreddit.

You are a good person. Unfortunately it's too easy to ignore it. Unless people are forced to use it , most won't. That's why I wish the mods would delete those posts. Maybe use a bot. Even ban those who repeatedly don't use the stickied threads. U/deadowl your a clever mod, is this possible?

It's one of those things where linguistically there would be a large amount of false positives and logistically there'd be a large amount of moderator work when there are lots of other things that are higher priority in moderating that would get slowed down. Even self-identification via post flair has a significant false-positive rate.

Replying with links to the pinned post should send the message.

Stop engaging with these posts and they’ll peter out.

Maybe more of an FAQ with the first 2 points:

  1. Where do you plan on living? (since there’s a housing shortage/crisis)
  2. Where do you plan on working? (since most in-state jobs won’t allow you to afford where you actually want to live)

Can’t fix stupid unfortunately. The stupid ass questions will persist. I just hope the dumb ass fad passes soon and the lemmings will move on to what’s next on the algorithm hot list before they fuck it up here like everywhere else the locusts swarmed. Locust lemmings… the latest apocalyptic variant.

Spoiler: It won't.

Vermont is not special in this.

The world is ending and people want out of wherever they are. Everyone is running to a climate safe space or a rural space that's not full of Magats and the Magats are all running to Florida.

If anything it will continue to get worse if something doesn't change and that change is not gonna come from any right leaning politics. Not to bring politics into it but...

Vermont has been repeatedly reported as the only climate -safe state in the lower 48 for years and climate refugees have been slowly relocating well before COVID. It would be nice if we could all get along, but just like everywhere else, people hate newcomers and view them as interlopers.

Ask Mods to:

  1. Add a rule to this sub: “no questions about moving to Vermont.”

  2. Add a spam filter bot that moves these posts automatically into the mod queue Spam Folder

  3. Not ban the OP. That’s too harsh.

  4. Mods can make an automated response to the OP “your post has been removed because it breaks the No Questions About Moving In rule. You can post this question in r/NewToVermont.”

Alternatively, users can use the Report feature, select Breaks r/Vermont Rules, Custom Response, and type in “off topic” but you risk getting banned for Report Abuse.

Put something on the submission window that says "About to ask about moving to Vemornt? Go to /r/NewToVermont instead, thanks!"

Then, if they post here anyway, hit the report button. If the mods want they can rig a bot to remove any post that gets over X reports.

You can't "fix" reddit and make it stay fixed, reddit's a garden, not a house or document. The invasives will ALways try and return, the caterpillars will just keep coming in waves, the weed seeds will never quit.

I think the official response should just be “It’s lovely here, but I do not recommend it.” With no further elaboration.

The more people move to vermont, the higher the population density, the worse it becomes. Personally i don't feel the need to encourage randos online to move here as that is just a actively hastening the erosion of this beautiful sanctuary.

Maybe make a new sub for Covid colonists where you can all wonder together. Sounds like a subject that not a lot would like to see constantly
