This is the correct answer
They are complete opposites in terms of social services programs. In VT we have basically had universal healthcare for children and adults living in poverty or with disabilities for decades. Even working adults can make a significant income and still qualify for Medicaid if they have children. Pregnant women as well. Our friends living in NH who are disabled and living on Social Security are currently wondering if they will lose their Medicaid due to the COLA increase coming 1/1. Imagine taking away healthcare for disabled people because they make $1100 a month and your government considers that too high too qualify.
As a resident in the Upper Valley, I see this play out all the time where WRJ seems to shoulder the burden of social services because the funding isn’t available across the border (and Norwich is just a bunch of rich uppity-ups).
Yup that area is an example of the dichotomy that exists in New Hampshire with one of the wealthiest counties in the country there surrounded by rural poverty.
Mindset. Vermonters want to feel connected, New Hampshirites want to feel free.

IT IS MY GODDAMN RIGHT AND FREEDOM TO SCAR 5 YEAR OLDS BY SPLATTERING MY BRAINS ACROSS A BUSY INTERSECTION. REV THAT HOG BROTHER
Nh is the type of state to have LIVE FREE OR DIE. As a motto and then refuse to even decriminalize weed.
Also a bunch of libritarians stormed a state run ski area and held it hostage because state business bad I guess?
LIVE FREE AND DIE
NH is the focus of the Free Stater movement. Bunch of libertarians have agreed to move from other states to NH in order to create a state with basically no government. This is real. The ski area thing was part of that. Also they want to remove public funding for schools and hang my mother out to dry as far as health care goes.
This is still one of my favorite stories about Free Staters: https://newrepublic.com/article/159662/libertarian-walks-into-bear-book-review-free-town-project
To me it is the mountains. The Green Mountains and the White Mountains are very different, but equally awesome in their own ways.
Sales tax/State income tax
How many cannabis plants can you grow In NH? In VT you can have 2 mature and 2 immature. I think MA is the most liberal in the US for allowing home-grow, like 6 or 12 plants?
This is one criteria for comparison.
MA allows 6 plants per adult in a household. We grew a lifetime supply in just a couple of years.
That was exactly our scenario in MA too ! Ha ha
2 mature 4 immature in VT, but I think that’s expanding soon.
That being said nobody’s ever come to check how many plants in growing.
Granite.
While VT is just a pile of schist.

NH has granite.
Vermont has marble.
