Going to be in Southern Vermont. I was just going to wing it, but is there anything that I should do that I should plan for?

Yes, it's a must stop. Last time was there the restaurant at the top was out of business. Anything up there now?
There is a brewery that serves pizza on the weekends up there now.
There's a decent sized gift shop that seems to do pretty good business, but I haven't been inside.
If you're into skiing World Cup race at Killington Saturday and Sunday.
If it was just me then I'd be all over that, but I'm bringing the wife and kids and they would not be too happy with the extra drive unfortunately

Support Vegan AF restaurant in Brattleboro; they had a recent break in and are fundraising with a food sale to recoup losses.
Go see music at The Stone Church while you’re there.
We usually go to The Works Cafe but we can change it up. Thanks
Please do change it up. The Works is a chain and serves pre-made and frozen food. Do yourself a favor and have lunch at Yalla as well. Also, the new owners of the recently reopened Kipling’s are great people and run a fun bar.
It's a chain?! I would have never thought. Hm, yeah not a problem
Kipling's Tavern, as u/Team_Flight_Club called out, is a great re-do of a local dive. Now featuring better food and better drinks. Yalla is great too. Bring some time to wait in line if you're trying to show up right at lunch time.
Patio Coffee is Brattleboro's best coffee (it's a one man show -- check online to see if if he's open)
Duchess coffee is top notch also.

Hogback Mountain overlook on Route 9 on the way to Brattleboro is a pretty epic experience.
