Hi moms/parents of r/vermont.

So I’m a new mom to a 5 month old son generally located in the Montpelier/Waterbury area. I’m realizing that we (read: me) could really use a playgroup or mom group, particularly with winter coming along. I’ve found a bunch of lists/events for playgroups or story times online, but am wondering if anyone had any recommendations for any ones that were well attended or fun.

I’d also be really interested to know if anyone had any recommendations for any active and fun mom or parent groups generally along the 89 corridor. Guess I’m looking to meet some other people and maybe take the kids for low key strolls, snowshoes or xc skis.

Any recommendations generally from Montpelierish to Burlingtonish (and maybe from Stowe to Warren) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading and helping out if you can!

When my kids were younger we had wonderful times at the Children’s Room at thatcher brook elementary school. It was open whenever school was in session and had toys, crafts, and organized field trips. I’m still friends with some of the moms I met there. I believe it’s still active

I know there is a baby circle at good beginnings in Montpelier. I used to go when it was virtual for covid and there were usually 7-8 other moms/babies there. I think they are in person now! There's also story times at the library in Montpelier, although I can't remember the day/time.

As mentioned, the Children's room and good beginnings are awesome and in your area. There's also a baby playgroup Mondays at the Richmond library that used to be great but I haven't managed to catch it with my youngest yet. Dorothy Alling memorial library in Williston has a once a month baby-centered group, next one is Dec 7th. They just started this fall so it's still a super small group, but we've had a good time when we've gone. There's also a paved bike path behind the school there which is perfect for a stroll after. Findandgoseek.net has an awesome calendar of events and groups too. I tend to go more for baby specific groups, they're usually not as loud so it's easier to make parent friends. "Pre-school" story times/playgroups are great but usually way more crowded and only really fun once you hit toddlerhood.

Libraries often have great free story time or play groups for babies and little kiddos, and I just checked for Evolution Yoga (used to have baby and mom classes in Burlington) but I think GROW prenatal and family yoga is in that spot now. Good for you for making plans to get out and about, hope you find your people!

They have a family barn dance every fall that's fantastic. It's their annual fundraiser and it's held in an antique barn on that winding road off of Maple Street that runs through Stowe. It's a really special group.

There is a walking group in Huntington for new parents. Not sure how to get in touch with it though… I bet if you called the town clerk she’d have ideas.
