We have been using Verizon for the last three years in Vermont and are tired of paying so much. Are there any cheaper alternatives that have decent coverage and data speeds? We tried one of the alternatives ones that used Verizon’s same network, but they throttle the data so much that our map software was unusable. Ideas?

Switched to xfinity mobile. Cut my bill by more than half. Me and the wife $62/month after taxes unlimited everything. We were up to $135/month with Verizon. I think they throttle after 20 gb mobile use but I haven’t hit that yet.

US Mobile also uses Verizon's network, I've had decent coverage and no throttling.

Seconded. Visable runs off the Verizon network and it’s way cheaper, esp. if you are on a party plan. The only thing of note is that your data is deprioritized during any peaks, which has never happened to me in VT.

*My understanding is that it’s owned by Verizon but is a no thrills subsidiary. The customer service is also non existent but you can do everything online.

I read somewhere that Verizon created Visible as a way to get their customers to switch to their digital service organically. The old system (towers) was analog and they needed help phasing it out. If that's true, my assumption is that they didn't want customers to get annoyed or scared with the changes and bail on the service completely. Whatever the reason, I don't really care because I pay 25mo for unlimited data, text, tether, etc. and it's on Verizon towers. I found their service better than Straight Talk (Verizon edition) and way cheaper. Plus Visible has a great promotion incentive to start their service, something like 150 off their phones rebate, first month service free, and some Google Pixel earbuds...

I've also had great luck using their on line customer service which I was skeptical about at first.

AT&T prepaid. Game changer. $35/month unlimited text & call + 5gb data per month. Sign up for autopay and save $5 each month.

I use Straight talk with unlimited everything for $42/month per line. Never have issues with throttling and service is as good or better than any major carrier I’ve used. They have great prices on new/refurbished phones as well. No interest on their payment plans for devises either.

I use Visible and it works decently in where I’m at in VT (middle of the state).

Google Fi is reasonable and uses multiple towers from the major companies for really good coverage.

Choose a different MVNO? I have friends on Straight Talk (Verizon side) who are perfectly pleased.

Personally I use MVNOs based on ATT/Tmo's network, and have been reasonably satisfied.

We use Mint Mobile. Can't say enough bad things about Republic Wireless after they got bought by Dish.

Can’t believe people still use Verizon. They charge so much more than even the next most experience carriers.

I’m using US Mobile. It use’s Verizon so same coverage. Significantly less expensive.

Before this I used Ting for years but their service became unreliable after being sold to Dish Network. I think Ting uses T-Mobile.

Recently switched to Spectrum on the Verizon network. So far so good.

If you know someone who works at a school, the educator discount from AT&T is great and the service is fantastic.

I use Mint (which uses Verizon towers) and I’m super happy with the service.
