Also, if you’re tight on cash, go to a gas station that has “off road” diesel. You don’t need to pay the tax if you’re using it for heat. I’m in NH but I imagine it’s the same in VT.

This, if you can find off road diesel you will save ~0.10s/gal or so. It’s the same as on-road diesel, the on road is just sold with a tax on to maintain the roads.

The only differences are that offroad diesel is dyed red and there's no road tax.
