Native Vermonter here trying to get married in her own state affordably, I currently have the reception venue booked in downtown Montpelier however, we are having an issue trying to find an affordable, creative, beautiful indoor or outdoor (with coverage option) for our Ceremony. We looked at Churches and have decided that is not our avenue. The wedding is at the beginning of October of this year (2023), with an invite of 60. It has an elegant urban theme, so I was thinking of a museum, a historical building, an event space, an apple orchard (with some sort of coverage), park with a rotunda. I have one caveat no tents, I just can not do a tent.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Maybe Hubbard Park could work - there are several pavilions, walking trails, feilds...etc. https://www.montpelier-vt.org/238/Hubbard-Park

Bar Hill Distillery is an awesome location on the river and urban / chic setting with patio / private function space. Definitely check them out.

Maybe call Morse Farm and Sugarworks as well, they might have barn space / function space.

Zen Barn in Waterbury does small ceremonies too.

Vermont College of Fine Art is closing (closed?) but they had a really nice event space there. Also check out the event space at Caledonia Spirits - if it's a small enough wedding, that could work.

I like your thinking! Caledonia Spirits was on the list!

Yes. That space is great. But I’ve noticed most weddings aside from church weddings tend to have the ceremony and reception at the same place to make it easier for guests. I could see having the ceremony in Hubbard Park or another outdoor space given the natural beauty here, but not having it in one building just to move to another for the reception.

The portrait room at the Vermont History Museum could work -- it's right downtown, so it would be easy for guests to get between the two spaces. Room would be big enough for 60 without it feeling too cavernous. The portraits would lend a cool backdrop, and it would be easy to dress up the room with a some floral arrangements and other decorations. You'd also be right by the State House for pictures.

That was the first place I tried and they denied us hard! We even asked if we could just use the wrap-around porch for the ceremony, and they said absolutely not. I was super bummed. I think its kind of crappy on their part because it would be a nice donation to the museum and not much of a bother to just have chairs set on the porch for an hour. We even asked if we could use the side deck and if guests could be in the grass area but the answer was still no.

So if you have an "In" or a potential way around this please let me know! :)

The State said we could use the capitol grounds but not the building, potential rain could put a literal damper on that idea.

The Monitor Barn at Vermont Youth Conservation Corps is a beautiful spot in Richmond.

Have you considered the Grange in Berlin?

Thank you for the suggestion but it's a little more "rustic" than what I'm looking for.

The tower or the old shelter in Hubbard park, the museum next to the state house, the library (😍😍😍😍), maybe somewhere in the college but I’m not familiar with the buildings, it’s beautiful though. If the library is an option, I’d take that 100000%. How cool.

The library in Montpelier is so beautiful! It would be an amazing wedding venue if they do that sort of thing. I don't get down there often enough!

That is an idea I have toyed with from the beginning of planning. I'll reach out to them. Thank you!

My wife and I got married and had our reception here https://millstonehill.com/ and It. Was. Awesome. Insane views, gorgeous setting, spacious and accommodating. Our family all stayed inside while all our friends tented throughout the property, which is large. Didn't break the bank and everyone had a ball.
