Apologies if this is super specific for this page, but I cannot seem to find a good place for spaetzle, schnitzel, or most importantly currywurst and I am at my wits end finding one.

Bier Hall at Trapps in Stowe is pretty darn good. It’s Austrian technically though 🤷🏻♂️

Countryman's Pleasure in Mendon specializes in Bavarian foods (spaetzle, schnitzel, sauerbraten). I think they are closed for a remodel, though.

Second Von Trapps for sure- all of their food is excellent, big fan of the chicken schnitzel and the sausage plate, their spatzle is solid as are the mashed potatoes with sauerkraut. i always take home some of their homemade mustard too

I’m so glad someone asked this question. German cuisine is one of the things that I’ve missed since I moved here. Unfortunately, I live in southeast Vermont, and none of the establishments mentioned are in this area.

I second the Derby Line Inn. Great Austrian food. But be aware that it might it not be around much longer. I heard that the chef is looking to sell the place and retire. He is courting a new owner, but it's unclear if it will continue its Austrian fare.

Don’t forget Munich Haus in Chicopee, a little closer. Owned by the old head chef from The Student Prince. Both places are excellent - my wife prefers Munich Haus, I prefer The Student Prince.

You should try to make if! It's just flour eggs water and salt and you can but a spaetzle maker for like 20$ on Amazon. Takes no time at all!

I'm three years into living in Vermont and gave up on a lot of the foods I enjoyed pretty quickly - with German food being the most painful loss. Von Trapp's is good, but doesn't scratch the itch the places in Florida did - it's more expensive and has a more uptight feeling to it. I'd love some spaetzle, currywurst, and a doner kebab, but I find that I have to go out of state to get those things. I understand that you can get those things fairly reliably in Montreal - but haven't explored that yet.

The main restaurant is pretty good too.
For breakfast, they replicate the typical spread you will find at an Austrian Alpine hotel better than anywhere else I've found in the US.

It's also possible to just make it with a colander or grater with big holes! Not quite as convenient, but it saves one from having to buy a specialty kitchen object, which is something I personal find beneficial.

True true I agree with your position on the one trick kitchen ponies. But, I was too uncoordinated or something for that colander trick and now we eat kinda a lot of spaetzle (had a Hungarian grandmother) so it worked out for us.

That makes sense! I usually only make 1-2 portions at a time so it's not been an issue, but if it's something you make regularly or in large quantities then it's worth the drawer space!
