Dont understand why people would have such a hate boner for shorts and rather watch the exact same video on the exact same platform just because its not in the short format lol

Because shorts are fucking garbage - they're objectively inferior in every single way.

They're made for devices with less detail control, so no video seeking, no audio control, limited video real estate.

They're made for the sake of the "try to make you swipe for hours and hours" algorithm.

And the single worst thing about them - They're forced on me, I can't avoid them - I try to hide them on youtube but that only "temporarily" hides them from the front page. The youtubers I generally follow now spam shitty shorts too and reddit doesn't let me filter out all youtube shorts.

Shorts, tiktok - all that shit can go burn,

It's a 9 second video lol.. if it was a 10 minute video broken down in to 10 shorts then yeah fair enough

but that's the point.

Lots of things are now being crudely edited and cut down for the sake of shorts, and then people go and post that crap on reddit.

same reason you're right here: we like to read the comments.

I don't like shorts either but they have comments

Yes, but the format isn't optimized for them. You have to hit a separate button to open a portrait mode comment window. It's horrible.

I was talking about the phone experience. Which is identical whether it's a regular video or short. Both would be in portrait and require to press a button to read comments

The problem is that the rest of the platform is optimized for landscape. If I'm watching a YouTube video on my phone, it's in landscape mode.

ToolMeister t1_j7rq7gy wrote

Not arguing that, but you wouldn't read the comments while watching in landscape on your phone either since that's not even possible

Shiftlock0 t1_j7rrrgw wrote

I rarely read comments on my phone at all, but I do on desktop, which is also landscape. From my perspective, it's a long-form landscape experience, and the shorts simply suck.

Because shorts are annoying garbage that offer no benefits over standard YT videos, in fact, all they do is take away features normal videos have and cover the video playback with stupid bullshit.

That's reason enough. But thanks for your unselfish understanding

Because shorts are the same thing as videos, just with less options, also called "Worse". Would you buy a car with only 3 wheels, or one of the cylinders deactivated? There's just no reason to use them over regular videos.

Meckamp t1_j7r6xtn wrote

In what way is the short of this video worse than the normal version?

asdaaaaaaaa t1_j7ri08c wrote

Because they give you the same thing as normal videos, but with even less options. They do nothing better, and offer less in total.

Because I want to see the RESULT of this fly-by. Was the car run off the road? Did it do multiple flips into a ravine? We're the doors literally blown off or the windows shatter? We need answers.

Meckamp t1_j7piugh wrote

Yeah but none of that is shown in the video on normal youtube either
