I just love seeing Brendan Fraser's career surge for all the right reasons. I remember in the late 90s and early 2000s when he was seen as just another pretty face who could do stunts. That's all he was to the industry. But these past few years have shown that he can be so much more. 😊

Actually, I think he was a weird mixture of too pretty and too funny/goofy. Had he come around later, he would have been a Chris Pratt (which he basically already was if you compare Mummy and Jurassic World). If there was a time machine or something that could make him 30 again, I think he would have had a bigger career now. His humor and looks could literally be used in any current, big franchise.

That seems to imply that The Mummy was unsuccessful at the time. I don't believe it was. Fraser's "humor and looks" did give him a big career. Then other shit happened.

The Mummy was old school successful with 400 million box office plus whatever DVD and VHS sales/rentals were (this was the first DVD of like half of my friends). With inflation, that's 600 million dollar box office which is mediocre in this era of billion dollar franchises. What I was saying is he would easily be leading a billion dollar franchise if he was a 30 year old in 2023. He would be Chris Pratt or upper billing of fast and furious or something.

Fair point! I was neglecting how much the industry itself has changed. I agree with your take.

Hey, what kind of behavior is this?! Look at the two of you, being all ‘respectful’ and ‘adult’. Cmon! This is Reddit, ffs!

You guys have similar but slightly different opinions on things!! You are supposed to be treating each other with traumatized contempt. Not open mindedness! I haven’t heard ONE comment insulting the others sexual habits.

You can both do better, is all I am saying.

You would sully a thread about Brendan Fraser with such negativity? Appalling!

Hello, I was told there would be a fight here. Does anyone know where to find the fight?

He's got better taste than being involved in a FaF "movie."

Queue to Doom Patrol series opening where he bangs his screen wife from behind with bare butt and me desperately trying to find the remote control and telling younglings to close their eyes.

That shuttered my illusions of him as a goofy kids friendly action star. Now I know there I a reason that some series deserve their MA ratings.

I mean that's really the one time they flash titties, then it's more just Cliff dropping 684 F-bombs an episode.

Brendan Fraser was pretty huge at his peak. The bigger reason is more likely all his injuries and family situation that resulted in him taking fewer less demanding roles/more time off and the fact that there wasn't really any long running series for him to be a part of like the MCU at the time. He 100% would have been a title character in the MCU if it were around at the time.

Like his run from 99-03 is about as good as most actors can hope for without scoring a strong oscar candidate.

I loved Journey to the Center of the Earth from 2008. It was just a good family movie. The ending made me excited for a sequel, but it sucked seeing Dwayne Johnson being the star and Brendan Fraser not being involved in Journey 2.

You're right, Fraser was ahead of his time. He'd be Hollywood's favourite leading man if he'd gotten into the business more recently.

The Smartless guys (Sean Hayes, Will Arnett, Jason Bateman) just released an episode of their podcast with Brenden. (It was available w/subscription last week.) There was a some talk about the “quiet” part of Brendan’s career before his recent resurgence. Take a listen!!

The real problem was that he never got a chance to really show his range after he was blacklisted by Hollywood. Now he's finally getting that chance.
