I'm very happy to see Brendan Fraser get acknowledgement for his work now and the continued public support but it's doesn't sit well with me that these acknowledgements are coming from the initiations and industry that turned their back on him and so many others that were victims of predatory people in power. Most face no consequences and stay ultra wealthy.

You hit the nail on the head.

Not that I’m saying Brendan Fraser doesn’t deserve to be honoured but all of this feels like a massive overcompensation or overcorrection to how they treated him in the past to make Me Too seem more credible. Almost like they forgot about him and then realized last minute that they should be treating him better.

Never forget that this so called “academy” and “guild” includes people who kept quiet for decades to cover for the likes of Harvey Weinstein and his ilk, and continues to this day to celebrate Roman Polanski.

Exactly. Even if you think something like that is wrong, by doing nothing you're still supporting it. Worse still most people involved are already millionaires so it's not like speaking out will leave them destitute.

So I’m not that up to date on the BF story. My understanding is that he stepped away on his own. Did the “industry” really turn their back on him? I thought it was maybe 1 or 2 individuals…
