Cormorants are incredibly voracious birds. My region in Canada actually put a bounty on them for awhile. They are believed to pillage rivers that support wild Salmon migration and spawning. I'm told they decimate many of the Salmon farms in the area too. Cormorants are not the true problem though. Poor fisheries management and greedy aquaculture business is the crux of the problem. Almost nobody participated in the bounty program because it's so full of sh#t.

This bird is a fish nightmare . The river where we are fishing now is empty because of this bird .

Both cormorants and shag are very common around my area. There are plenty of fish being taken from the rivers here. Freshwater species that migrate to freshwater areas are healthy and productive. Fish farming is prevalent and said birds do put quite a dent in the operations. They knew this would happen and they think the issue will be resolved by killing natural predators. More will come. Science proves this. I'm sure you'll catch a fish.
