If you adjust for inflation flagship prices have barely increased. eg The GTX Titan cost the equivalent of $1300 in 2014.

You should be comparing to the 80 series, or 90 series after the lineup changed to RTX cards. Those are the chips developed first and that the rest of the line is built from, while cards like the Titan are enthusiast grade products.

The GTX 980 was equivalent to ~$720 The same as a RTX 4070.

The Titan was the equivalent of the 4080 16GB. They are the same price inflation adjusted.

GPUs don't cost more. People just ignore inflation.

Shouldn’t you compare the 4070 to a gtx 970? I bought a 970 about a year after release for ~400CAD. About 500 adjusted for inflation. Now, the rtx 3070 is 800-900. 60% more expensive in real terms.
