Looking at the amount of commercial mortgages expiring in 2023, I wonder if there is a way to produce a list of the banks with the largest exposure to commercial mortgages in relation to their balance sheet - any idea ?

>There's no easy way to produce such a list, but the FDIC has data on commercial mortgages by bank. The top five banks with the largest exposure to commercial mortgages are:

  1. JPMorgan Chase
  2. Bank of America
  3. Wells Fargo
  4. Citigroup 5.. Goldman Sachs

Thanks - those are the big whales - I was thinking rather the smaller community banks that would go broke over it

The FDIC has this information on its website. They’re filed quarterly by each bank, search Call reports.

S&P Global does this. You can generate reports of commercial properties with their title and lien history. Current balance of the lien is always an estimate, but the origination date, principal, and monthly payment of the liens are very accurate based on our past mailer campaigns.

KRE is regional bank ETF. Even as much as regionals have dropped I'm sure there is plenty of room to short still.
