Europe has simply bought everything what was available.

And: warm Winter - at least until now.

And Germany delayed the shutdown of its nuclear Power plants.

And Franze seems to be able to repair their Power plants

Yes, its difficult. But managable.

Those headlines were written by idiots. Oil is a global commodity. Price goes up because Russia can't sell, and maybe alternative energy is used in places where it's now economically competitive. Some people just pay.

Think of it this way: Supposed all you ate was McDonalds and the cost of burger went up. Big Macs go from $3 to $4. Would you

A: Start ordering McChickens instead.

B: Just pay the extra dollar for the Big Macs

C: Starve

If you only had 3 dollars what now?

You're assuming they all have 4 dollars in your example.

It assumed Europe would just do nothing.

Instead they worked the problem, stockpiled, and did some stuff to get ready.

Apparently doing your DD works

This is still Autumn. Winter doesn't start until the Solstice on December 21st. Check back then. But really check back in February. The issue wasn't there wouldn't be any but if there would be enough to last through Winter.

The world is always on the precipice of collapse, don't you know?!

Just off the top of my head, things the news used to drill on about forever & then conveniently forgot about, we've got...

  • Peak Oil
  • SARS (the OG one)
  • Ebola
  • Trump
  • War with Iran
  • War with China
  • War with Russia
  • Hong Kong

I know I'm forgetting a bunch if anyone else wants to add hah

But yeah, it's in the media's interest for you to think things are worse then they are. Gets more clicks, not to mention plays into the 'us vs them' pov

ivegotwonderfulnews t1_iye0mft wrote

always remember the news companies publish anything they can call facts that they think will get clicks and continue to sound the alarm until the clicks slow to a crawl and something else, new and shiny, shows up. Never pay attention, its virtually all noise.

If you were paying attention, europe had been stock piling gas reserves for months now

Whether it lasts the whole winter, who knows, but most of Europe should be good until March.

Non story, was a non story for a minute.

But people wanna see the world burn

F.kn expensive power here (Norway). Varies from day to day, but usually from 300-600% price increase from last winter and year before last.

Frothylager t1_iye65ht wrote

Prices rocketed because Europe panicked and bought every barrel it could 6 months ago. Now they are like every North American retailer sitting on way too much inventory with no way to move it.

OrinCordus t1_iye6p1t wrote

It's been super mild weather wise for the last couple of months and Europe completely filled their gas storage units. It could still worsen but the outlook is a lot more positive/manageable now than it was in September.

Assume the problem is fixed if nobody talks about it. I remember when like I was ten people were going nuts trying to figure out where all the garbage was going to go… all I know is news don’t cover that anymore so I assume they figured out some loophole to destroy garbage for free with no positive or negative effect on this planet.
