My dad is visiting me in late March (March 17-20). One of his hobbies is film photography, and he asked me to be on the look out for any galleries, exhibitions, or particularly interesting exhibits at museums that have black-and-white photographs on display. He built his own dark room and develops his own photographs, so he's very interested in studying/learning from others' printing techniques.

Is anyone aware of anything that may be of interest to him? I've had little luck online given that what he's hoping to find is so specific (For example, he's not interest in the LoC's "Not an Ostrich" exhibit since the photos are reproductions.) I'm in Adams Morgan for location reference, but while he's here we'll likely be spending a significant amount of time around the Mall. Figured some artists in the city may have a better idea than I do!

I feel like the obvious recommendation is the portrait gallery, I'm sure he would find something interesting there if he's in to photography

National Gallery of Art is having an exhibition on photography from Britain from the 70’s and 80’s, some of which appear to be in black and white. Might be of interest to him. https://www.nga.gov/exhibitions/2023/this-is-britain-photos.html

Just visited this last week! I really enjoyed it — however, it is pretty small. Just 2 rooms and maybe 40 photos total. About half of them are in black and white.

Check out the DC history museum on the top floor of the Carnegie library (now Apple Store) they have an amazing exhibit on black and white panoramic photos from a long time ago. I think it’s still there.
