What the hell is this noise and why can't the driver make it stop???

It's like the sound that the farecard box makes when you pay, but it's just constantly going off. Like almost every second, as he's driving. Torture

You know, I certainly did think about it. But the buzz/ring was constantly going on, the bus driver is trying to drive, and I could just see myself getting up to go ask the driver...not necessarily a good situation.
Was hoping that someone here would have the inside scoop on what that is and why it happens.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe these buses come to a stop for several seconds fairly regularly. That might be an ideal time to ask

This was a Y (commuter) bus. So this is not the case in our situation. (And I get off two stops after getting on.)
