I recently tried to renew my vehicle registration online and noticed my personal vehicle registration fee was much higher than I expected ($500 for two years?!)

I know they recently upped registration fees for certain vehicle classes, but I drive a compact car and wasn't expected to be affected by it.

My vehicle is currently linked to the wrong class. Based on its weight, it should be considered Class I, but is in the system as Class III, resulting in a significant fee increase ($500 vs $144.)

Has anyone else experienced this? Any tips on getting it reassessed?

I think the threshold is 3500 pounds? Try calling or writing DMV with your particulars.

Mine was $500 but I renewed for two years and paid for two years of RPP. Maybe your total included that, too?
