Is anyone aware of free in-person or local services that will help you do your taxes for free or cheap? I was thinking maybe a community center or the library might have information about it.

Community Tax Aid is a free organization that will help you file your taxes for free https://communitytaxaiddc.org. They have locations in MD,DC, and VA. Also if you have simple taxes, it’s free on Turbo Tax

You could have just posted the link and stayed helpful instead of leaning into “I think I’m so much smarter than you” territory. Did your extra little comments make you feel better about yourself? Like what even is the point?

I prefer a high value DC sub with interesting questions, even if they aren't relevant to me.

I don't think this has anything to do with me being smarter (I had no idea these services exist prior to my Google search) , but it seems reasonable, to me at least, for people to put just an ounce of effort into their posts.

I agree. People should google first and not clutter the sub with low-effort questions.

Also the post violates Rule 10 of the sub, so people shouldn't have answered at all.

I also had no idea this existed, and it's interesting to me, too! I don't think that obviates the need for questions to raise above the "can I get an answer via quick google search?" threshold.

I hope you enjoy your 800 questions on where to find a tailor, which neighborhoods are "safe neighborhoods", and where to find a 1 BR apartment with parking in the city for under $1000.
