While Fort Totten isn’t accepting residential trash and the Benning Rd location is only open Wed- Saturday, where are people taking their weird trash items?

We’re moving out of our house and need to drop off a bed frame, car tire, TV and some other random stuff that accumulates in group houses over the years. I can’t figure out where to take it. Any advice?

I’ve done multiple Bulk Pickup requests through 311 but of course, they haven’t taken everything, or “haven’t been able to find it” and were down to the wire now, as move out is March 1.

I do what my neighbors do: just put my old furniture out on the street with a “free” sign and then pretend that it’s not my problem anymore

… I think people are taking it to Benning Rd Wednesday through Saturday

You may also be able to schedule a bulk pickup (not sure what you mean by “group houses”)

You can also pay someone to come get it

We’ve hired Clean Decisions to haul away stuff before. Their mission is to hire and integrate former felons back into society. Nothing but good experiences and their pricing is very fair.

College Hunks Hauling Junk is super available and not very expensive, for a private hauling option. Alternatively, if your 311's are getting ignored, try contacting your ANC Rep. That worked for me when somehow my clearly marked stuff couldn't be found.

Have you considered Watts Branch Creek? Seriously though, the last time I moved, I paid the movers a couple hundred bucks to get rid of a bunch of stuff. They said it was going to Ft. Totten, but I’m guessing it didn’t.

Get a private company to handle it

We've gone over to Benning Road.

Important to note that bulk items (e.g., bed frame) can only be dropped off Wednesday-Friday. Saturdays are reserved for household hazardous waste (e.g., TV).
