I created an IG account that I really don’t use often but still log in every once in a while. A DC restaurant reach out and asked me to change my username since my current one is their old handle and they want it back. I told them that for a bottle of wine and a few apps I could be persuaded to do it.
This restaurant basically told me that I was extorting them and squatting on their account. I’ve had this account for over a year, maybe two. Honestly shocked at this restaurant’s reaction. I said they were being entitled with their request and their response was that I was the entitled one by asking for “payment” in form of wine after the COVID pandemic. They also accused me of going against IG TOS (which they actually they were by soliciting the transfer of my username). They blocked me, so I guess I’m keeping their old handle now.
Edit: For those asking, the place had a bejeweled holiday decor last year.
Edit: Whao! I didn’t expect this to blow up like this, I just thought it was a funny story. I appreciate everyone’s suggestion, but I honestly I’m not trying to mess up with anyone’s business. There might have been a disagreement with whoever I was talking to, but their employees depend on that business to make a living, so please be kind.
With that in mind, honestly I want a calm ending to this. I’m totally willing to give up the username if it means that much to them. I got a sense that they are aware of this post so if they want to reach me I can tell them when I plan to change my username, that way they don’t lose it to someone else.
Final edit/update: The account has been deleted. Anyone who wishes to use the handle it may do so now. If they want the win, they have it, I don’t need it.
