I really need someone to explain this to me because why am I over 18 but can’t file to change my own name? How can I do it without a parent or guardian? If you have experienced this, please help me.

I would call the clerk’s office and tell them your age/ask them to confirm which form you should file and which documents you need. I changed my name at 20 years old and was treated as an adult.

I filed a name change when I turned 18. Did not require a guardian. This was in VA.
