Most of the groceries I buy are vegetables, but the cost of vegetables at Giant & Safeway are increasingly unaffordable. What places do y’all go to for cheaper vegetables? I live in NW, but fine to go anywhere in DC or MD.

I like getting gourds and heavier items at Trader Joes because they charge by item rather than by weight, but their produce tends to go bad very quickly and Rodman’s by weight prices aren’t bad for an otherwise expensive grocery. Spinach at Target is cheap but it sells out quick.

I always do my shopping at Latino/international markets because they’re cheap and the customer service is so much better than big grocery stores.

If you live in a part of DC near a Megamart (Takoma, Rockville, Hyattsville, Riverdale, etc.), they offer a free ride home when you spend over 50$ on groceries too.

quality is also usually pretty good especially given the cheapness.

I feel like half of the items in the Giant at Van Ness metro stop is always 2 for 1 or on clearance sale. I always wonder if its cause no one is ever in that Giant. Point being perhaps checking out the Van Ness Giant? Everything is always on sale, especially if you shop there in the middle of the week.

Magruder’s on Conn Ave for cherry tomatoes, cilantro, parsley. Aldi and Lidl for other produce. Trader Joe’s for bananas and avocados.

The Magruder's produce side has to be a loss leader to get people in to buy booze on the other side

Check out 4p, and I think there is an even cheaper one that I haven’t tried too. Never would have thought I’d save money with a CSA…weird times.

Wholesale warehouse stores at Union Market is your cheapest option. No need to buy in bulk either, they sell small quantities too, but may not have a huge selection.

Check out the Asian grocery stores! Such as Good Fortune Super Supermarket in Falls Church, and Great Wall Supermarket in Rockville. They are a little far away from DC though… but they have plenty of fresh cheap vegetables!
