Where did you move from? The really sad part is that it's one of the best public transit systems in the US.

This is one of best public transit cities in the US ... That said COVID and the slow return to the office has effected the robustness of our transit options.

I use the circulator primarily and I’ve noticed its become less reliable over the last couple years. Some days I’ve waited 30+ minutes when it’s supposed to be every 10 I believe?

I’ve lived in Europe and the US so I feel your pain. European public transport systems have reliable schedules and trains are rarely delayed. As others have stated, DC has one of the best public transportation systems in the US. Frankly, you need to change your expectations in the US sadly. Comparing public transportation in London and DC is like comparing apples to oranges. I wish it were better too, but we have to live in the reality we are in and I don’t see WMATA changing anytime in the near future. I’m just glad we aren’t forced to drive a vehicle like the majority of this country.

Google maps is very reliable for houses.

>And the metro comes once every 6 minutes or so?? How do people commute to work on time?

If the metro comes every 6 minutes then you're waiting 6 min max for a metro bus so... Wake up 10 minutes earlier?

>it really should be free

DC residents are probably in line for $100 a month in public transportation costs (up for a vote in the city council).

>I’m now forced to take public transport and have to take account for an extra 20 minutes in possibly delays.

Depends when /where you are going. I have very few problems..

For real-time bus arrivals, I use the Metro & Bus app. It’s not perfect (actually sometimes buses come more frequently than WMATA predicts, ironically), or the bus comes about a minute after the app thinks it has departed. But it’s overall accurate and useful! It also shows any active alerts.

It’s funny when I first moved here I was excited because it was so much cleaner, nicer, and larger than Philadelphia and NYC’s transit systems. Now I’d kill to be back with them even if they are dirtier and older. I never looked at a schedule until living here because there was always another coming in a matter of 2-3 mins.
