Hey all, I grew up in the Smoky Mountains and country ham (bone in salted and smoked) is a very common meal which can be found most anywhere. I’m struggling to find a spot that sells it now that I’m living in Forest Hills.

Any restaurant recommendations in the DMV from fellow country ham lovers?

Edit: appreciate the comments! specifically looking for restaurants, I’ll be sure to check out the places recommended.

There is a guy who comes up from Culpeper to the Alexandria Old Town farmers market every week. It’s the real deal.

I too grew up with country ham. A country ham sandwich from the gas station by our house was a special snack. The last time I saw country ham here was at the Petworth Safeway circa 2007 and I haven’t seen it since! Following this thread to see if anyone has any good tips.

I'm completely impressed with all the helpful replies. I thought there'd be a free-for-all on busting his balls. I love country ham so this thread is a treasured find! Thanks everyone, esp. OP.

I also appreciate a ham!! I think Wagshal’s has country ham. Also, I sat at the bar once at the Line hotel in Adams Morgan and ordered a ham sampler. It was expensive and AMAZING. But, this was awhile ago, and I have no idea if they still have it.

No Goodbyes at The Line in Adam’s Morgan has house cured charcuterie, including a variety of country hams.

Doesn’t Cracker Barrel have it? I wonder if they’ll do full ones for the holidays. Looks like you can order a whole country ham from Smithfield too.

Dacha (Shaw; not sure about Navy Yard) has a Croque Monsier for weekend brunch that has country ham.

I personally have issues with their business practices and no longer patronize that establishment.

Not local but any Waffle House has surprisingly delicious country ham (we go to the one in Damascus).

Also, you can have Calhoun’s (https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100036645439856) shipped to you. As another poster mentioned, they usually have someone at the Old Town Alexandria farmer’s market every Saturday selling it, too. They sell whole hams, pre-sliced bone in & sandwiches. It’s so good & their ham has been served at the White House. If you have a car & are looking to get out of the city, highly recommend a trip out to Culpepper. They have a humble, no nonsense little store. There’s a cool brewery nearby & the town is adorable. It’s great for a day trip.

Actually, though - Iberian ham is pretty similar to country ham in texture and flavor. They have it at the DC Wegmans.

Well, literally my point, and lol downvotes, is that Spanish ham is a cultural apex of theirs and they make the best ham in the fucking world. /Subtle on the net, always a winning play
