I've lived in both NYC and London and both systems make more sense to me than DC's system. The zone system isn't that confusing - it makes a lot of conceptual sense and it's easy to show on a map. This is the system London uses and it was a snap to learn to use (absolutely not as hard as the dreaded taxi zone system.)

Just make it free, public transport should be free to the public. Stop cronyism and corruption and you could pay for it easily

I got on metro over the weekend and had to get off the same stop 5 min later because of an emergency. I was still charged.

How about metro charge one cheap fare along the whole route instead of per stop

But that would interfere with WMATA's ingenious plan to replace old faregates that basically encourage faejumpers with NEW faregates that are exactly the same but just allow a new form of payment. /s
