The sprawl makes getting out to the actual rural areas take forever.

I disagree. There are boonie-ass parts of MoCo that are only 45 min away. Harpers Ferry is like an hour

I’m from MoCo which actually does a decent job at controlling sprawl with the agricultural reserve (a third of the country must remain farmland). My comment is more directed at getting out to Shenandoah but the 270 corridor is pretty sprawly, too. Growth in Clarksburg has been huge. I got back from near Harper’s Ferry in ~90 minutes recently and that was with no traffic.

You must be from California. We don't use "the" before road numbers here. Also, we call it the Dulles Toll Road (or the Toll Road, even though it's not the only one), not 267.

First time I noticed this was about 15 years ago when I met my friend from Vegas…threw me through a loop - there reverence given to the 50 and the 7100 (back when ffx co pkwy was 7100).

Also nothing beautiful about suburban sprawl. DC has all the pieces of a proper regional rail network, but it's neighbors just don't want to realize the potential.

Unlike most cities, the boundary of DC is pretty absolute. I feel like if it wasn't for that, a lot of the area would have been annexed. Course part of VA used to BE DC pre civil war.

Arlington, down through what is now historic Alexandria on the diamond shape.

And I say it's high time we took it back

I'm excited for it. I think the novelty will wear off quickly.

For the record...this is not me shitting on you. I am in full agreement. I think we should preserve the small community feel that makes DC so desirable and amazing to live in. I love it.

Massive and all brand new low rise Whole food condo developments. The actual amount of history and culture in DC pales in comparison to Philly.

DC was a swamp when Philadelphia was the Nations Capitol. You will struggle to find a person whose family has been in this city more than one generation.
