It's all office parks, so I guess you could do stuff like innovate, collaborate, promote synergy and things like that.

And afterwards you could circle back a week later to check in.

The Udvar-Hazy Center is now just a short Uber or bus ride away from the Silver line.

This is the one of the better aviation museums in the US. If not the best

You can literally ride it to the airport and fly somewhere more exciting.

That’s my plan!

I’m definitely going to take advantage of IAD but I’m thinking local lol.

Local as you’re in petworth and looking for things to do 30 miles away in Reston lol

Yes Reston would be considered local dumbass. The expanded connections allows new experiences and things to do instead of only bar hopping etc.

There are loads of breweries out that way (Solace, Ocelot, Old Ox, Crooked Run, Lost Rhino, Rocket Frog, Beltway, Aslin, Juicy) but most require a bus/bike/Uber to get to once you get off the train. Aslin and Juicy are by the Herndon station, the rest are out at Loudoun Gateway.

Kaylee_Sometimes t1_iwsotx5 wrote

I was at Juicy today and the bartender said they’d had some people come in by train. It’s a 10-15 min walk from the station.

Thaumatovalva t1_iwt1c08 wrote

The other Aslin is by Van Dorn metro and fairly walkable from there. Haven’t been to some of those others but now there’s Metro maybe I’ll give them a shot.

It’s NoVa suburbs, so stations have nothing but parking lots.

Yes and no. Reston Town Center has a lot more than parking lots.

  • Reston Town Center has a shuttle bus to the main town center area, with more redevelopment coming closer to the station

  • Herndon is planning a big redevelopment of the offices north of the station to mixed use. If you're willing to walk about 15-20min along Herndon Parkway, there's a former industrial plaza turned commercial shops where you can find Weird Brothers Coffee and Wooboi Chicken, as well a few other spots.

  • Innovation Center on the south side has an Afghani restaurant as well as a Vietnamese restaurant and bar and few small shops near Icon apartments. There are 3 new mixed use developments under construction that will add more spots for bars and restaurants to that area as well

  • Dulles has planes

  • Loudoun Gateway is a park and ride/bus transfer stop surrounded by data centers and warehouses

  • Ashburn on the north side has an AMC theater, and mixed use spaces with a bunch of bars/restaurants and more development to come. Also more data centers nearby.

spaceiscool_right t1_iws7he0 wrote

Downtown Herndon is also just 1 mile away from the Herndon station. If you don't mind a 20 min walk

-JG-77- t1_iwr93qt wrote

From innovation center you can catch a bus that takes you to the awesome Uvar Hazi branch of the air and space museum, featuring a Blackbird (fastest plane ever built), a Concorde, a real space shuttle, the Enola Gay (the plane which dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima), and much more.

Yup. I'm hoping for some specific recs because I'm totally unfamiliar, but would like to give it a shot. I don't know which routes are going to be great or if I'm picking an area where some jerk in his emotional support truck is going to try to roll coal on me.

Reston Town Center station has a capital Bikeshare location, which makes it easier to get to downtown Herndon, which has a few things to do. Alas no Bikeshare station in Herndon itself, so your clock will be ticking until you get back to Reston. Hopefully Herndon will get a few Bikeshare stations…

If this counts, at Tysons there are a couple malls nearby. One of which is basically attached to the station.

Give it time. The areas near the Metro stations will develop. There are parts of DC that didn't really come alive until they built Metro stations. And that was within the city.

There's plenty of things to do out in the suburbs. It's not like Fairfax and Loudoun Counties are simply wastelands full of McMansions and farms.
