I recently had mine replaced at an Inova affiliated office. Per my doctor, Inova doesn’t allow them to numb the cervix. She did prescribe misoprostol to soften my cervix and recommended I take both acetaminophen and ibuprofen beforehand. I was similarly anxious since the original IUD placement was so painful but it wasn’t nearly as bad this time. I recommend taking the rest of the day off and getting cosy with a heating pad.

“Doesn’t allow”??? That is insane. I just found out that in Australia they PUT YOU UNDER for an IUD insertion but you can’t even get lidocaine here?? Savages

I would actually consider flying to Australia for my next reinsertion. My last one was so painful all I could do was lay there any cry.

Why does the US not take women's pain seriously?
