Early 30’s and I have always wanted to learn how to ice skate. I admit I have been embarrassed to sign up at this age. If anyone learned to skate as an adult, is there any place you went in DC?
Do you mean ice skate or roller skate? Every local public ice rink has adult beginners classes. All of them.
doesnt really matter, if he learns one of them he'll pretty much know how to do both

I’d vote for IcePlex, because hockey rinks always have that wall to hang onto.
Learning as an adult is not for the faint of heart. Ice is hard. I learned as an adult but didn’t master it. Good luck!
I've done the adult lessons at Cabin John and the coaches there also do Wheaton. They are absolutely amazing and have a ton of patience as long as you cone in with a willingness to learn. I'm kind of sad my schedule changed and I had to stop.
I would say for the DC area - Cabin John/Wheaton are the best bet, just with the availability and caliber of coaches. MedStar is ok too, but the capitals and children programs take preference there.
If you have a car, the Mount Vernon rink in Alexandria (Fairfax part) does adult LTS. I started there with a six-week class for adults who had never been on the ice before. The whole class is dedicated to getting you on the ice and then off the wall by the end. It's great. You won't feel dumb or out of place at all.
I take group lessons at the Fairfax Ice Arena as an adult and love it! I started as a beginner this March and have been making my way through the Learn to Skate levels. The adult classes are for 14+. I’ve had classmates of all ages (even up to 60 years old!)
Just about any ice rink has adult learn to skate classes (and learn to play hockey, too, if you're so inclined).
All the right advice given here already--learn to skate classes at laurel have been great for my kid, but it's a bit of a hike up there.
I play hockey and have skated basically my whole life. The biggest thing is ice time and coaching can help speed up that learning curve, but like most things, practice, practice, practice!
If it suits your learning style, definitely check out some beginner skating youtube tutorials, might help you understand what you're trying to do before you even get out there.

Did you ever roller blade as a kid? It’s very similar. If you can roller blade, you won’t need lessons.
