If they're game for it, the sculpture garden ice rink is a great first date, and if it goes OK plenty of good places for food and drinks nearby.

Grab a coffee and go for walk. Make sure to dress warm. There are markets you can walk around or can just walk and talk!

What part of town are they in? Always appreciated it when a first date/meet and greet made it convenient for me.

Especially since it sounds like you haven't met - choose something that can be over quickly without much awkwardness - like HH or the coffee/walk another poster suggested. If it's not a match, easy to spend the half hour and make a graceful exit. No hard feelings for anyone.

Maybe Swingers? The indoor mini golf - bar place. It's close near Dupont. Always like a first date that allows for being up and moving. Also good for seeing how serious people take themselves!

Pick a museum. The National Portrait Gallery is great and there is a holiday market outside nearby. There are plenty of places nearby to eat also.
