She has always been aggressive. I think she's been arrested a fair amount of times.

They always drop charges. Falsely collecting for a charity is already a crime so I don't get why authorities don't tack on wire fraud given an app is used but, that aside, letting them go repeatedly is why the scammer continues to press on and escalate. This person is a public safety concern and the law is simply not applied to them.

It would be nice if everyone would stop giving SissyGrace money altogether. They are enabling this continuous harassment of the public and it's a real shame this is being tolerated at all.

Notice the neighborhoods that have sightings, bet that mess wouldn't fly in Congress Heights or Anacostia.

I saw her scamming some people in line at Trade one night as we joined the line behind them, she got VERY upset when I told her would be victims she was a scammer and to not give her any $$. Luckily i was with a big group so she scooted off instead of trying anything.

Late_Operation1692 t1_ixeeob8 wrote

What does she do? It seems like her main source of income is from haggling people for money. Surely there is no way there’s a large group of people donating to her with the reputation she has in this thread alone.

The percentage of people in DC who read Reddit, and then follow this subreddit are very s=very small - also you have to think that there are a lot of tourists that would never have any idea who this person is.

Plus - it must work because they keep doing it.

She was snippy with me too on 14th the other day. I think once it clicks that you know who she is she basically realizes you’re a threat to her scamming someone who doesn’t know.

22

ahorseinahospital t1_ixefn3v wrote

Once in the summer of 2020 I’d had enough of her when I was sitting by the White House and watched her go from person to person, so I started shouting every time that she’s a scammer, where to see a video of her trying to assault a congresswoman, etc. She got a bit more timid but kept going, but eventually started saying I was harassing her and going to talk to a cop parked nearby. Idk man it just enraged me, and there were cops right there so I felt safe to call her out. But she is known for assaulting people.

But also oddly enough every time I’ve encountered her since, I’ll politely and firmly say “I know what you’re about, no thank you,” and she’ll scooter past me, do a u-turn, and then try to talk to me again. It’s really weird.

Boomer humor isn't going to make scammers stop scamming and will put you at a higher chance of assault than not doing that

−1

wordsmith217 t1_ixf9ba2 wrote

Of course it’s not going to actually make them stop scamming. They’re scammers; it’s what they do. Shaming them, if not effective, is at least a comedic attempt at enforcing the social norm of not bothering random people for profit. Lighten up.

I'm not comfortable contacting police, esp since I was able to very easily shake them off and keep moving; however, I am down there very often and, should it happen again, I will contact the authorities

−4

MidnightSlinks t1_ixeg92r wrote

I would encourage you to think about contacting the police not as a recourse for what happened to you but to at least try to prevent them from doing the same thing to someone in the future who will not be able to physically or mentally/emotionally handle the situation in the same way you did.

That was my mindset after I was the victim of a misdemeanor sexual assault by a stranger. I suffered no physical injury due to what I was wearing. And I had been assaulted before, so my immediate and enduring emotional response is "fucking pissed" which is an emotion I'm already very familiar with and am good at channeling into productive actions. But what he did to me easily could be the thing that makes another young woman say fuck it and leave the city altogether or he could have escalated and harmed one of the many homeless women on the street in that area, so I called 911 thinking about them, I gave my statement (multiple times) thinking about them, I testified at his trial thinking about them, and I gave a victim impact statement asking for mandatory drug/alcohol and sexual conduct counseling as his "punishment" because I actually wanted him to never do it again, not to be sent to jail for having done it to me. It's ultimately your decision, but I wanted to share my experience with you in case it's helpful.

26

WBS-70 t1_ixerrcf wrote

You should reconsider this. If she grabs you, it is assault and it is a matter for the police. She will continue harassing and assaulting people until there are consequences.

I saw her stop a woman on Connecticut last week. She asked the woman to pick a number between 1-3 and then started pulling things out of her bag. I started yelling “she is a scammer “. “ she’s going to scam you”. Another guy walking by said yeah she tries that all the time. The lady left and said thanks. If you make it impossible for her to make money hopefully she will go away eventually

Leather-Objective338 t1_ixeah82 wrote

I saw her the other day and something along the lines of “I’m really sorry but I just had some money troubles and I really don’t have anything to spare” before she even made the ask - worked on getting her to back off. Not sure if it will work for everyone but worth a shot

Yeah. I’ve got some PTSD issues and really shut down when people are aggressive with me. I do know some ASL (still learning) and would love to use it to disengage from random street confrontations (but I appreciate that it would just be/come across disrespectful). I just imagine if some large person was aggressive with me/tried to grab at, corner or chase me down I’d have a melt down real quick.
