I want to get some art for my wife for christmas. Probably a painting but I'm open. Where would you start looking for something like that in DC? Budget is probably <$1k so nothing crazy.

If she has the artist that you favor, I would look online to be honest. There's a bunch of art galleries in DC buy at a budget of $1000. He might have a hard time finding something that is worthy.

A number of local artists have booths at the Christmas Market at Gallery Place. There are some at Eastern Market. There are other Christmas markets as well.

Not sure if it’s the style you’re looking for, but there’s a guy on weekends on 14th street that sells a bunch of paintings

There’s this Baltimore guy that does art with lyrics of a song or words in a movie. If you guys have a special song, I feel like it would be cool for him to create some art for you, maybe a picture of you two or something. Just a thought.

My friend Margaret does incredible portraits and also does murals in yards around DC, if that’s anything your wife might be interested in. She does gift cards if it’s the kind of thing your wife would like to pick out herself. You can check her out at mholmesart.com

Tomorrow (December 4) from 1 to 5 the Jackson Art Center is having an Open Studios event. It's sort of like a one-afternoon-only Torpedo Factory, but I've actually liked the stuff at Jackson Art Center better. It's on 3050 R Street in Georgetown.
