food and friends is super well-organized for volunteers and a great organization. if you have a car you can do deliveries (I did every other Friday morning for 5 years, but they have Saturday shifts, too), or they also have on-site volunteering. In NE close to Fort Totten.

All of the big nonprofits associated with parks and watersheds have trash cleanups and many have invasive plant removal days. You can also just get a trash grabber and some bags and hit your neighborhood park.

Check out College Bound. The program is awesome and they are in need of mentors. The commitment is 2hrs each week during the school year plus occasionally meeting up with your mentee for cultural activities once a month.

Sign up on the VolunteerMatch.org website, indicate your interests and abilities, and you can see opportunities listed. The site will also send you an email from time to time with opportunities that might interest you. I have been using that site for maybe 10 years and have helped for short one-day or just a few hours, and have also signed on for longer commitments.
