How long is the trip out to Dulles via the silver line taking folks recently?

Very soon after the IAD stop opened (yay) a lot of people on twitter said the wmata trip planner time was way off. Have the time estimates gotten better?

Being late in life is one thing, but cutting it too close with a flight is something I’m hoping to avoid. Flying out of there next week so was hoping to get a sense of things—thanks!

It was 55 minutes from Farragut to Dulles when I did it - weekday afternoon. Adjust as needed depending on your point of origin!

Take a look at the (free) CityMapper app. It gives a rough idea of times station to station. I plugged in Eastern Mkt to IAD at 7 Tuesday morning and got 83 minutes. I find the estimates are often conservative and I get there faster, but I would budget at least 83 minutes to be safe.

I'm sitting in Dulles airport having ridden from Benning Road Saturday night to catch an international red-eye. I guess it took us an hour and fifteen? It was right on time, regardless. Sure beats driving, paying for gas and parking, sitting in DC traffic, or even the Uber prices. Less time in the cold as well waiting for the parking lot bus. Seems like everyone brought and ate a meal-to-go from the Shrimp Boat and was chowing down when I left though. That being said this Silver Line is a game-changer for me as I travel internationally out of Dulles about once a month.

Ive taken it. Its about 57 minutes from Farragut West. Eastern Market - add an additional 13 minutes. You're actually looking at 70 minutes door to door.

Remember its a decent length walk from the Dulles station to the terminal. Add 6 minutes to that.

I've ridden from Ashburn to U Street about 10 times since the extension's opening so I have a decentish amount of experience with the timing on the new line: sometimes this trip has taken me 75 minutes and sometimes it's taken me over 2 hours. I'm not sure if it's growing pains or what but the length of the ride can be very unpredictable. I would honestly budget as much time as possible for it.
