Happy holidays everyone! This year has been big for me. 4 years ago, my ex fiancé cheated and I fell on a huge depression that lasted years. After working on myself, I finally broke out of said depression. It’s been one year since I moved to DC, reconnected with wonderful close friends and now, just last month, I got my dream job!! Im flying back to dc after visiting family for the Xmas and will spend new year in town. My friends are out of town, but i am feeling genuinely happy for the first time in years. I’d love to go out and have some fun, maybe make some friends or even maybe meet a lady! No expectations really, I just want to have fun safely, and celebrate myself for me, and cheer for what is yet to come. Any suggestions?

A few suggestions—I don’t have a ton of experience with MeetUps, but they seem to be really popular in the area. There’s got to be something that aligns with your interests. There’s probably also some comedy clubs or other entertainment venues where you can hang out before and after to mingle. There are some good restaurants that also do non-clubby but still social NYE events (I went to one at Jack Rose a few years back and it was loud and high-spirited without being obnoxiously overful), which might be a good way to combine some interests. And maybe put out a call on this sub if you find something, it feels like there are usually takers when someone gets the ball rolling. Good luck and congratulations on a great year!

Oh hell yeah, good for you!! Congrats on the job, the new outlook on life, and losing a cheater! I saw someone post on here that the emo/rock affinity meetup group is going to 930 club on Friday for Emo Night (basically a DJ plays throwbacks all night). If you’re still in your emo phase, you’re welcome to join. I also won’t know anyone there—none of my friends are into this music LOL

Very happy for you! If you have Facebook, I'd suggest checking out some groups like DMV friends and other events.

I second the person who mentioned meetup.com. I met cool people that way when I first moved to DC. Best wishes to you!

I’m going to Jackie Lee’s in Manor Park/Petworth. I call it a clean dive bar. Chill, nice people, low douche factor and affordable drinks

Above & Beyond are playing at Echostage. Could be fun if you’re into the electronic music scene or just want something different and fun. The Anjunabeats fans tend to be a friendly bunch

the selina hotel is throwing a super chill "slumber" party. no pressure, safe space to either drink or not drink. there will be DJs and art stuff and lots of room to sit and meet people or dance or just vibe. the ticket gets you a discount code for a room if you wanna stay there and continue the fun in the morning with mimosas and yoga.

Someone else mentioned Above and Beyond at Echostage, I actually have another ticket because my friend is too sick to go. Meeting up with a ton of other fans before the show for some beers, going to be an incredible night. Lmk if you want the ticket!
