ATX->DC transplant here - dew it! Weirdly DC reminds me of old Austin - small town vibes with big city amenities. I think the cohesiveness of each neighborhood - being able to live, eat, drink, hang out, dry clean, etc. all hyper locally - helps, without everything being as overwhelming as NYC.
The taco options here are vastly improved since I left Austin ~10 years ago (Taco City is my local fave), and even BBQ is looking up (2Fifty). Not things to “scope out” while you’re just visiting but good to know they exist when you make the move and get homesick;-)

I’m also a former austinite who’s lived here for quite some time and yep, basically this. I’d also recommend Lyman’s and Red Derby- they’re up in north Columbia Heights in a fun little neighborhood.

Austin transplant as well and loving DC after living DT Austin for last ~7 years previously. The free museums, solid public transit, and cheap flights errrywhere are some bonuses. Also, people are friendly and outgoing from what I’m experiencing.
