I’ve been trying to write some personal essays to get better at creative writing but have put it off because I don’t have external accountability for it. So, I figured a good way to have folks to be accountable to would be to join a writing group. Does anyone know of any creative writing groups that meet in-person in DC?

Edit: I see some suggestions for Bethesda but I’m wondering if folks have suggestions for somewhere in DC proper — I don’t have a car so getting all the way out to Bethesda would be a challenge.

Have you looked at the DC library? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen flyers for something like that at the Petworth one!

hot tip, there's also a lot of creative writing groups on the internet. people in /r/writing sometimes drop their group discords and you can also check out sites like Absolute Write and Scribophile

The Writer's Center in Bethesda is truly horrid - you're far better off searching Meetup for an in-person writer's group near you.

Hmmm..I love this post! I’d be interested to know if there are any creative writing groups in the area that are meeting virtually?

no, because the one thing they do have is a particularly vile spin doctor trolling the internet for chinks in their armor of bullshit. I suggest investing $60 in a membership and interacting with the various "Directors" to provide your own details. Ask ahead of time about the refund policy, it may have changed.
