Anyone else have someone knock on their door and ask to see your energy bill? Someone just did this and showed me some vague screenshot while explaining he wanted to make sure Pepco wasn’t hitting us with SOS charges. Kept asking to see my energy bill so he could make sure and I eventually got him to go away by saying we had already checked it. He was very persistent and it smelled fishy to me

If it happens again, “no” is a complete sentence.

This happened to me recently and I found it unsettling. What seems to be the consensus from neighborhood blogs, etc., is that it isn't a scam per se, but the execution is extremely shady. They came to my house and asked if I'd heard of cancer and if I was scared of it (lol) and then said they needed to see my energy bill, which is when I said I didn't have it and couldn't help them because it seems pretty fair to not show strangers on your porch your financials. I think the end game is a sales pitch to get you to switch to a legitimate clean energy carrier, but the method is scammy and also financially risky.

You probably also already get junk mail from them. There’s a couple clean energy companies going around doing this. If you go along with it, they’ll transfer your electric account and jack up your costs.

Beyond being annoying and charging you more, they don’t do anything else. Your electric supply stays the same.

Literally just had a knock a minute ago in Truxton. I just said i wasn’t the one that paid the bill and he moved on quickly.
