Are there any fun places to watch the State of the Union? Like any bars or cafes known for watch parties. Yes, I'm serious šŸ˜‚

You must be new here, this is a very common thing in DC. A list of bars will be posted closer to the date.

I'm not too into gojng to bars so I wonder how going to a bar to watch a speech is enjoyable. I get going to watch a sporting event since you don't need to hear the announcers and you can talk to your friends. But don't you have to be quiet to hear the speech?

Appreciate any insight.

There's usually captioning, so that helps, and even if you don't catch every word, for political junkies, half the fun is watching the body language and face reactions, etc.

Does the Speaker of the House (if of an opposing party to POTUS) react to more partisan speech points, since they are seated right by him prominently on camera? Do they grimace? Do they purposely look bored? etc.

Does the peanut gallery of rank and file members of Congress boo anyone? Do they stand for more compelling points, or just clap politely?

I havenā€™t done it in many years, but back when I lived near Eastern Market I would watch the first half of the speech on TV and then walk over to the Capitol during the second half. All the Senators and Reps have to crowd into the chamber and none of them can bring their briefcases and purses and stuff so they have to hoof it across the street to their offices when they leave. I would annually alternate between the House or Senate side, but typically I enjoyed the House side better (more people to see and/or belittle if thatā€™s your thing). Also fun to play ā€œguess whose motorcadeā€ based on how many black SUVs and police vehicles.
