Had a weird incident at Friendship Heights station last night while transiting though the area via the 33 bus after work (just missed the last train). When I got to the station, I immediately noticed a bunch of homeless people sleeping at the station which is typical across the country these days, but one sketchy looking guy started to follow me and I had to round walk round the block several times to get away from him until my uber came (I live in Bethesda). Was really taken aback at how this could occur in Friendship Heights of all places, sure its been in decline as retail location for a while and there isn't much housing around, but its really jarring being followed by some random dude next to a J Crew and a Saks Fifth Avenue. Luckily I'm male, pretty athletic and streetwise enough to notice when I'm being followed. Would hate for it to happen to someone older or new to the area.

Is it because of Covid or the decline in retail? Can't say I've ever felt unsafe in other supposedly 'well-off' parts of town like Georgetown at night. Whats going on over there?

That bus station tends to attract some strange folk but honestly friendship heights is pretty calm. Seems like a one off in my opinion.

I am very sorry that you had this unpleasant experience. In any urban area it pays to be streetwise. I was robbed by teens at gunpoint in Silver Spring near Flower Street and Piney Branch Road more than a decade ago. The risk exists outside city center.

I'm glad you didn't suffer any physical aggression.

They are turning all those buildings on DC side into residential. Also, down near Rodmans
