Hey fellow Washington DCers! I'm looking for a vet recommendation - someone who has experience managing feline diabetes and does it well. Our 16 yr old tortie was recently diagnosed with diabetes and we've been cautioned by family members experienced in dealing with diabetic pets to find a vet's office that is understanding and communicative through the process of adjusting insulin and diet as it can be a little tedious if not done right.

Does anyone have any good recommendations in the area that I should consider? Thanks!

Friendship Hospital for Animals in Tenleytown. That facility has specialists.

Atlas for really good general care, but when my cat needed an oncologist and an internist we went to Dog and Cat emergency and speciality in Bowie.

Yes it’s a ways out of DC but I’ve had better experiences with Dog and Cat than Friendship

I use Atlasvet on H st and they were good with my diabetic cat. Friendship animal hospital is one of the few places with dedicated internal medicine specialists inside DC. I've taken a cat there for an emergency and it was busy and very expensive, but your experience would be different for a non-emergency.

Collins animal hospital in Georgetown, Dr Fischer is fantastic! I ultimately had to let my guy go because of other concurrent health issues but Dr.Fischer always had time for him and was always very realistic about options and treatment for his diabetes. I've since moved farther away but take my new cats there because of how wonderfully she treated my guy.
