I recently moved to the DMV and I’ve noticed that the accuracy of my partner and my GPS on our iPhones are awful. When we are driving, the phone might say we are nearly two blocks away from where we actually are. I would think it was an issue with my phone, but the fact that my partner has the same problems makes me think otherwise.

Has anyone else dealt with this issue and found a solution?

I heard a rumor that GPS services are bad in DC on purpose so that weapons with a GPS tracker can't target effectively

It is fairly common if you have a lot of tall buildings around you. It always takes a while for the gps to match my location when coming out of a garage. Have had similar issues in nyc and Philly. I listen to mostly satellite radio and I do notice more “dead spots” in dmv than other areas.

Sounds like something a Pizzagate believer would tell you 🤦🏽‍♀️

OP: I have this issue in all cities; NYC, Richmond, DC, etc. I would suggest restarting your phone and then opening maps to use. It always works for me.

My GPS works fine but my (ATT) data sure is unreliable in many spots!

Do you have low power mode on? I’ve found it screws with my GPS tracking when I use Strava. Also try turning off Wi-Fi. Like others have said, it should work fine in DC. I even get good GPS on the metro.

GPS here and driving here sucks, takes a long time to get use to it

No. Having been around a lot of military bases, this rumor persists around many of them. Either with GPS, or that the base has jammers to prevent your phone or radio from working near the base. In OP’s case, it’s just tall buildings.

I’ll even have the problem driving around the more residential areas. Like I was in Shaw the other day and the GPS was going a bit nuts.

But I guess it’s just a thing to get used to!

Apple maps is always trash. Google maps too. Waze has worked best for me.
