hey guys i was just wondering because me and my boyfriend are looking to move to washington dc and i feel like rent is cheap, minimum wage is high, super walkable, lots of family owned businesses, and taxes aren't bad and now im just trying to figure out what the catch is lol.. is there something im missing that is making it cheaper?? im coming from southern california btw

edit: im sorry i said the rent is cheap guys i think its just in comparison to socal and without all the expenses of driving everyday i felt like it was cheaper 😭 alot of the ones i have been seeing on different websites are around 1400-2100 which is a huge difference from socal pls educate me if im wrong 🙏🙏🙏 i am also not renting now in socal because i really dont want to get stuck here im saving to move because i want to live somewhere walkable, my career is dog grooming and my boyfriend works in retail as of right now. i really apologize again if i rubbed anyone the wrong way saying rent was cheap i just meant compared to what i would be paying here with the expenses of owning a car and stiff

2nd edit: ok im sorry again maybe cheap wasnt the right word i guess i meant you get more bang for your buck because all the public transportation i was expecting it to be upcharged because of how convenient it was im so sorry guys i really feel bad i promise im not trying to gentrify dc im just trying to get a better life
