I guess I'm naïve for assuming that if a performance is happening at the Kennedy Center it wouldn't be a religious propaganda piece run by a kooky cult, but here we are.
If you were intrigued by the advertisements depicting it as a performance of classical Chinese dance based on 5000 years of Chinese history, do yourself a favor and spend your next free evening at Dan's Cafe instead.
Highlights (or lowlights?) include:
-some cool dancing
-claims that Chinese classical dance invented somersaults and flips
-CGI video that looks like it was created by a 2005 middle school computer class showing the cult leader flying around like a god and coming down from heaven to save the earth
-a song/video about an interdimensional shapeshifting lion
-aliens?
-multiple songs about how evolution and atheism are evil and satanic
-a song about how members of their religious cult are persecuted in China by communists who murder them and harvest their organs
I was so caught off guard in the first few songs that I ended up googling the show and reading its Wikipedia page during intermission. Really wish I had done that beforehand.
